SOPH x Hingston Studio
Anniversary Capsule Collection
- Art Direction
Celebrating 20 years of design in music, this exclusive clothing collaboration was created in partnership with our friends at SOPH in Japan. Founded in 1998 by Hirofumi Kiyonaga – SOPH is a pioneer in Japanese streetwear. Their clothing sits at the intersection of traditional craftsmanship, technical detail and American heritage.
Referencing garments from different subcultural movements – Punk, Hip-Hop, Suede Heads, Mods and Skater Boys – the limited edition collection led with six outerwear pieces. Each of these was based on an existing clothing item iconic in its own right; a classic Alpha Industries MA-1 jacket, a full length parker and Lee Jeans denim jacket were amongst some of the key pieces featured – selecting a core palette for the exterior colours, each piece was then customised through linings, graphic detail and outer finishing. In the case of the MA-1 we specified two bespoke colourways for the outer shell. Vibrant dégradé finishes were introduced across the interior linings of every garment, with a bleach, dip dye applied to the denim pieces.
Each garment was sold with an accompanying package of bespoke patches and enamel pin badges. These featured a series of typographic slogans taken from lyrics and graphic emblems inspired by the HS archive – each forming an open invitation for the wearer to customise and personalise their piece.
Sold exclusively at SOPH stores, Japan and Isetan in Tokyo, each garment produced a limited edition of 1000 pieces.
