The Dezeen Awards recognises the world’s best architecture, design and sustainability projects. Hingston were invited as creative directors for the 2024 event at Hackney Church, comprising set design, music programming, lighting and screen visuals.
Hackney Church is a sensitively restored Grade II-listed building in East London, renovated by architect John Pawson. With such a unique setting, it was important for our approach to work seamlessly with the existing architecture – avoiding additional structure or set builds, we employed light and atmospherics to transform the space. Taking inspiration from the show identity designed by Micha Weidmann Studio, we collaborated with We Are Seventeen to create a series of animated sequences for screen and projection.
Harnessing the interior skin as our canvas, the show design was a physical expression of the awards identity, realised through a vibrant sequence of light and projected image.
The evening was soundtracked by DJ’s Joe Goddard and Lou Hayter.
